Süwag Energie AG

Myths. Lab coat. Chalkboard.

Setup

A utility that already knows humour is allowed.

@energiefluencer didn't appear yesterday. Süwag has been building the account since 2022 as a sub-brand in its own right alongside the corporate channel — with a public commitment to the idea that humour in this field is no longer a risk discipline but a reach mechanic.

On that foundation, the five-part mythbuster campaign in spring 2025 could do something most utility communication cannot: cast a persona, borrow a TV format and ask for 90 seconds of unbroken attention without the set wobbling. The nerve was already built into the sub-brand — the campaign didn't create it, it delivered on it.

The brief: debunk five energy myths with humour — LED versus energy-saving bulbs, wallbox charging times, the CO₂ balance of EVs, solar panels in German weather, showering versus bathing. The hook: a character format loosely modelled on the Discovery series MythBusters, complete with lab coat, chalkboard and a red BUSTED stamp as a ritual full stop.

Only the chalkboard, table and globe were physically built — the window wall, the rest of the room architecture and the opening camera zoom come from generative image editing. That gives a tightly built setup the spatial depth of a whole classroom, at a production budget that only becomes viable for five reels this way.

Approach

Format DNA in six building blocks: a constant classroom set; a cast teacher as brand face instead of influencer visual language; burnt-in sound-off subtitles; a fixed header and the red BUSTED stamp as the closer; a stable micro-dramaturgy (myth → argument → counter → BUSTED → CTA); and exactly one slapstick gag per reel as the memory hook. Consistency over brilliance.

Culturally, @energiefluencer sits in a third category that is too often overlooked: brand character rather than influencer deal. A brand builds its own cast persona and treats it like a creator — comparable to the Magenta crew or Duolingo's owl. In 2025 the format hits three pain points at once: distrust of utilities after the price spikes, EV scepticism after subsidies ended, and a saturation of energy myths in talk shows and pub conversations.

The strategic answer: correcting myths instead of advertising. Süwag appears not as a seller but as an explainer — more likeable and dramaturgically more robust, because every myth carries a built-in story structure. Sound-off-first design and a deliberately long form (76–98 seconds) position the format not in the race for the shortest hook, but for substance.

Core insight

The campaign doesn't sell anything. It corrects something.·
"We didn't translate a utility channel into advertising, we translated it into a format. A cast face, a borrowed TV setting and the discipline not to break frame five times over. The result: more than 250,000 views across five reels — and a sub-brand that carries on after May instead of ending up in the archive."
